What do the SATs levels mean?

It is expected that the majority of 11 year old children will achieve Level 4 by the end of Year 6. However, for some children achieving Level 3 is a real success for that particular individual.

What do the results of all the tests mean?
Each school set targets for a certain percentage of pupils to reach the expected levels in English and mathematics. This presumes that each children will make a certain amount of progress from the SATs they did in Year 2. The results show whether or not your child has reached the expected Level for their year group.

Where can I find examples of SATs questions?

There are some websites listed on this site where revision questions can be found.   WHSmith sells books that have past questions in.

What can we do to help?

A child does not fail SATs. Encourage children to be confident about their ability to do well.  Support you child in working through the revision guides and homework given.  During the SATs week, make sure children are early to bed and have breakfast each day to help with their concentration.
