Year 2

    Welcome to Year 2!

    Homework

Literacy and maths homework will be given out every Friday and will be collected on the following Thursday. Spellings will also be given out on Fridays and tested the following Thursday. Please practice these spellings every night.

    Reading

Reading is extremely important and we expect the children to read at home as often as possible (at least 4 times a week). Please ensure you sign the reading logs each time you read with your child. We will check their reading logs each week to see how many times they have read at home. Please note – it is not just about the children’s fluency in reading, but also their understanding of the text. Enclosed in this pack you will find a list of questions you can use when reading with the children. To meet national expectations, children should be reading at ORT Level 10 by the end of Year 2.

    PE

Our PE days this term are Wednesday and Friday (2R). (This is subject to change each term so please read the parents’ noticeboard on each classroom)  Please ensure the children have the correct PE kit – black shorts, white t-shirt and black plimsolls. The child’s name should be on each item of clothing. Where possible, earrings should be removed on PE days. We are required, for health and safety, to cover any earrings with tape. This can be uncomfortable for the children especially when they have to remove it.

    Wet Mornings

If it is raining, the procedure for your child’s class is as follows: Children in 2R and 2B can enter through the back of the classroom from 8.40am.  2M children will enter through the door they normally go through and wait in the corridor.  An adult will be present.

At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to the child's success is the positive involvement of parents.

At Cherry Lane we understand that learning is a partnership between home and school.  During the year we are likely to run a number of parent workshops to assist you in helping your child at home.  Look out for these opportunities.

I have enjoyed the parent workshops as they have made me feel more confident with helping my child at home.

Purple Mash is an exciting and safe online environment where children can get involved in all sorts of creative projects to support their learning in Literacy, Maths, Science, Computing, History, Geography, RE, Art, Music, and Design and Technology.

Your child has a Username and Password to access their Purple Mash account from home.

This personal login is unique to them and will enable them to access the different activities Purple Mash has to offer and to complete any homework that has been set by the class teacher.  Please click on the image below to access the materials.
