Welcome to Year 3

Year 3 is an exciting year for children as they become part of KS2! In year 3, our goal is to provide a fun, enriching yet challenging experience for all our pupils. We have high expectations and standards that we support our children to achieve.  We encourage all children to be active learners and to take responsibility for their own learning in order to achieve their targets and goals.

We welcome parents to actively participate and support in their child’s development and interaction with us. We request parents to support their children at home with their homework and to listen to their child read a few times a week.

We are sure that with the support of parents and teachers working collaboratively, this will lead to the improvement of your child’s learning in every aspect of their life.  We teach and encourage our children to behave in an appropriate manner and to show a respectful attitude towards their learning and to members of the staff and other children.

Tell the children and they’ll forget,

Show them and they’ll remember,

Involve them and they’ll understand”

Useful information

Reading

Children should be reading at least 3 times a week (or more!) and remember to sign and tick their reading record. Children’s books will be changed once they have completed them and are able to answer comprehension questions regarding the text. You can support your child’s reading at home by asking questions to develop their understanding of what they have read (see ‘How to help your child read at home on the School’s website).

PE

PE lessons will take place twice a week.

Please make sure your child has the correct kit on these days. This will be posted outside of the classroom entry door each half term.

Earrings are to be left at home. If a child cannot remove their earrings please bring in tape to cover their ears on PE days.

Kit: black shorts, plain t-shirt in house colours or white, plimsolls/ trainers. In the colder months, children may wish to wear jogging bottoms.

Long hair should be tied up.

Weekly Homework

Purple Mash

Maths & English homework will be handed out every Friday and will be due by Wednesday. Weekly homework will be based on our Maths & English lessons from that week to consolidate learning. We expect all children to complete their homework to high standard and hand it in on time. If your child requires any support to complete their homework please speak to their class teacher.

Each half term, topic homework will set on Purple Mash for children to complete. If your child has lost or forgotten their login, please speak to their class teacher.

TT Rockstars

All children will be given a login to TT Rockstars for them to learn their multiplication tables up to 12. Please encourage your child to frequently access TT Rockstars to practise their multiplication tables.

Spelling test

Test on Friday

Spelling homework is handed out on Friday and children will be tested on Friday for Golden spellings and Read, Write Inc spellings will be tested on Friday.

Please help your child to practise them daily.

Trips

We are planning trips that fit in with our Topic curriculum in the Spring or Summer term. These will be confirmed closer to the time.

If you are able to help your child’s class on their trip, please speak to the class teacher.

Behaviour

There is a high expectation of pupils’ behaviour within our school. We expect children to treat each other and adults with respect at all times. If at any point the behaviour of children is unacceptable, the class teacher will follow the school’s behaviour matrix when taking action. We are very lucky to have parents that cooperate with the teachers to enhance their child’s behaviour both in and outside of school.
